Abstract
My paper focuses on researching animal anatomy, adaptations and evolution, in order to develop better knowledge and skills when designing fantasy creatures.
I looked at An Atlas of Animal Anatomy for Artists, and Mammals and Deep Ocean: Kingdom of the Coelacanth narrated by David Attenborough. This helped me gain lots of knowledge on animal anatomy and adaptations.
I also looked into three creature artists, and analysed their processes. I looked into Terryl Whitlatch, Stephen Oakley, and Alex Boca. They all have really interesting character designs, as well as processes.
I used this research to create a product/guide to help beginner creature concept artists in starting creature design. It focused on adaptations and the general anatomy of mammals.
